My journey into music started when I was 12, and my aunt handed me less than 10 records to DJ her house party. Armed with no equipment, no experience, and a lot of audacity, I somehow made it work. Seeing her guests groove made me realise something important: if they’re happy, I’m happy. And if I’m happy, I’m probably stealing the spotlight. Growing up in 80s Battersea, surrounded by the West Indian community, I picked up two critical life skills: how to bust a move and how to drop a beat. Inspired by legends like Jazzy Jeff, I discovered the magic of scratching records and thought, “Why just play music when you can remix reality?” Soon, I was making mixtapes and forcing—I mean, sharing—them with my friends, whether they wanted them or not. As a proud Asian kid, Bhangra and Bollywood were the obvious go-to genres, but I thought, “Nah, let’s shake things up.” So, with my friends, I organised parties that introduced everyone to a mix of beats they didn’t know they needed. Infinity Sound System was born, and somehow, nobody called security. Fast forward 40 years, and here I am—still spinning tracks, still making people dance, and still wondering why I don’t get invited to more weddings. My heart beats for Soul, Funk, Rare Groove, and Disco Boogie. Whether you’re a toe-tapper or a full-on dancefloor diva, I’ve got you covered. So, tune in, book me, or just show up to one of my gigs.
